After the first 5km motorists take a detour on a dirt road that has been maintained and is roadworthy to city vehicles, however people traveling with caravans need to drive with cautiously as a dirt road remains a dirt road. The dirt road has multiple speed bumps preventing motorists from speeding, especially the heavy vehicles, but this can add to the frustration of those people traveling with a caravan.
The dirt road is roughly 15km and leads motorists back to the R74 as the last 4km on the one side of the road is already complete.
For the past week motorists have already been driving on the brand new road. Petré Theron, resort manager at the ATKV Drakensville stated, "by December we will most probably be able to brag with the first 5km and the last 4km new road, while the middle part of the road will probably be done by August 2016. We are exceptional excited about our new road".
