Huge accolade for East Coast Radio
East Coast Radio's Anisa Ussuph scooped top honours at the coveted MTN Radio Awards ceremony on Saturday night. She was named Best News and Actuality Producer and beat industry heavyweights from around the country to clinch the prize for her work "150 Years: Relive The Legacy."
The feature, which aired from 1 November to 16 November last year, involved turning back the clock to 1860 and taking a poignant journey to when the first indentured Indians arrived in South Africa.
"In addition to being a great project to work on, it was also a remarkable learning experience for me. I remember sitting through hours of interviews with community stalwart Dr T.P Naidoo and acclaimed local author Aziz Hassim and thinking: 'Wow, I had no idea life was that tough back then. Learning about the challenges and conditions our forefathers endured, was an incredibly humbling experience," says Anisa.
"To say I'm excited about the honour would be an understatement! I thoroughly enjoyed working on the series and I guess my passion for good story-telling came through loud and clear!"
If you missed this award-winning series, you can listen to all 16 inserts on ecr.co.za.
