Paul Freathy joins OFM

Paul Freathy, the well-known radio and television presenter, joined OFM radio in June as presenter of the Gold Retold shows on Sundays, the station last week.

Paul Freathy: "Radio is where it's at."

Freathy started in radio at Springbok Radio, where he worked as a voice artist and character actor, but he soon moved on and has been heard on 702, East Coast Radio, Radio Namibia (SWABC) and, of course, on breakfast on 5FM for many years, with Alex Jay. He believes that the universe took a chance on him by putting him on television - he presented Lotto, SABC news, and Road 2 Riches, among others.

However... "Radio is where it's at," Freathy insists. "Radio is one-on-one; only one person (me) is responsible for my own mistakes, as opposed to for example TV, where everyone else gets the blame, the auto-cue lady, the vision mixer, the director, heck even the make-up artist! Television is slow where radio is on the spot, immediate and so much more intimate. Plus, you can listen to radio in the shower, but just try watching TV there …"

Says OFM's programme manager, Tim Zunckel: “We have been looking for someone who is passionate about the music featured in Gold Retold. Paul was an ideal choice as the music truly was the sound of his life. He brings a wealth of experience to OFM.”

Freathy can be heard every Sunday on OFM from 9am to 1pm.
