Halaal Tourism Conference to be held in Durban
In 2011 Muslim tourists spent an estimated US$126 billion in various destinations across the globe. This amount is expected to rise to US$192 billion by 2020. The Tourism Committee of the Durban Chamber believes that the time is ripe for the city and KZN to prepare to capture a share in this significant market. This is the motivation for the forthcoming conference.
The conference aims to inform local businesses on the impact of Halaal Tourism in the economy, its steady growth and what it could mean to Durban in attracting this attractive, niche market. It will also highlight the ways in which both city and province need to prepare to make the destination appealing to the Muslim market by understanding their needs and expectations.
The speakers
Crescent Rating of Singapore director Fazal Bahardeen will address conference delegates on the global Halaal tourism market, its market trends and, particularly, give advice on how Durban may become one of the most sought-after Halaal tourism destinations in Africa.
Other speakers will include noted tourism expert Professor Melville Saayman of North West University and Baboo Dajee of Nestlé SA, a leading manufacturer of Halaal foods and beverages.
The conference takes place at the Elangeni Hotel, a Crescent Rated venue. The registration fee is R350 (excl. VAT). To register, go to www.bit.ly/KZNhalaal, email az.oc.rebmahcnabrud@sgnikoob or call +27 (0)31 335 1017.
