He began his career as an assistant restaurant manager at the Isle of Glencoe Hotel in the United Kingdom where he acquired expertise in the service industry. Returning to South Africa, he served as the operations manager at St. James of Knysna and his dedication to the hospitality industry resulted in a swift climb up the ranks to food and beverage manager at the Fairlawn's Boutique Hotel and Spa in Johannesburg, before he moved on to the food and beverage department of the Southern Sun Hotel Waterfront in Cape Town.
