State approves Kruger Park hotel

The government has endorsed plans to build a luxury five-star hotel in the Kruger National Park according to a story published by Times Live and Business Day, which says this announcement may bring the debate about a hotel in the park to an end.

Times Live says the Deputy Water and Environmental Affairs Minister, Rejoice Mabudafhasi, confirmed that the government had been grappling with the concept of a luxury hotel in the Kruger Park since 1999 when the South African National Parks tabled its commercialisation strategy.

Business Day reports the proposal to develop two hotels in the park has been widely criticised by environmentalists who say that these facilities will damage the biodiversity of the natural environment.
