"These results show that Cape Town is a major player in luxury tourism on the continent, and the jewel in South Africa's travel crown", he remarked. Cape Town achieved three out of the top five hotels.

The seven Cape Town Tourism members that made the prestigious list are:

  • Number one hotel on the African continent: Belmond Mount Nelson
  • Followed by Ellerman House at number 3,
  • The Twelve Apostles at number 4,
  • Cape Grace at 13
  • The Table Bay at 15
  • Spier at 18
  • And The Taj Cape Town at number 20.

In addition, The One&Only came in at number 12; two hotels in Franschhoek and one in Hermanus also made the cut.

"After a year of challenges, accolades such as these in addition to the announcement that visa and birth certificate regulations are to be relaxed are encouraging for all our partners in the tourism industry, and we commend our members for the efforts made in ensuring visitors to Cape Town have a memorable experience all year round. We are well-placed to highlight Cape Town as a top travel destination as we head into the high season", Duminy concludes.
