Playing host to some of South Africa's up and coming artists on Sunday February 22 means seeing some of the top photography, oils and contemporary artworks in this open air display. Diverse collectable artworks in this leisurely setting is reminiscent of Paris - giving a unique European feeling in the heart of De Waterkant. Amble through enjoying the creative spaces put together by the artists.

Enjoy the special South African abstract /contemporary art that the gallery specialises in as well as a beautiful range of glassware, exotic glass chandeliers, ceramics, lamp shades and stone sculpture. Focused on offering outstanding service talented Lisa King offers a free consultancy on both art and interior space in the privacy of your own home.

Look out for the young photographers whose work is on show this weekend. Kallum Poyurs, works under the name Icarus, and her works are bold and unusual. Seeing a different angle through her lens is her forte. Robyn Turner, a graduate of the Michaelis School of Fine Art has exhibited her photographs at Photokina exhibition in Germany as well as OKHA an interior design space. She is presently in private collections both nationally and internationally. Her inspiration comes from what is around her as well as from surrealism and land art producing an intriguing collection of pieces.

Tyrone Stafford focuses on design using techniques that bring out more depth detail and richer colours. His stencil art is on display in Royale Eatery in Long Street and his use of unusual canvasses gives depth to his designs.

Then, as a complete contrast, the T-Bag Designs take recycled tea bags sent from all over the world. These are ironed, painted with intricate designs and used to decorate a vast range of products. Mostly practical products like trays, boxes, lampshades and notebooks this innovative upliftment organization is now producing canvasses which are sold as unique pieces of art work.

Employing 16 full and part time people from Imizamo Yethu township in Hout Bay, this is truly a successful and growing project.

So with Design the key word in the City, the Cape Quarter's “Art on the Piazza” this Sunday provides a peek into some of the invigorating art in Cape Town. Where else would you want to go this Sunday? Cape Quarter offers it all and, with a leisurely meal at any one of the top class restaurants, art takes on a new meaning in this centre of culture.
