Nominations open for artists making an ImpACT

The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) ImpACT Awards for Young Professionals are open for nominations. The ImpACT awards are part of ACT's annual Awards Ceremony which recognises and celebrates outstanding achievement in arts, culture and creativity in South Africa.
Nominations open for artists making an ImpACT

Since 1998, the ACT Awards have recognised more than 350 individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to cultural life in South Africa. A prominent element of the ACT Awards is the presentation of prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards for Theatre, Music, Visual Art and Literature. Lifetime Achievement Award winners are nominated and selected by the ACT Board of Trustees.

Categories for nominations

As part of the awards, four ImpACT Awards are awarded annually to honour young artists that have reached some professional standing in their discipline, and are within the first five years of their professional careers. They are presented in four broad arts categories with selected disciplines being eligible for consideration in each. Public nominations are now open in the following categories:

  • ImpACT Award for Visual Art - Artists working in the mediums of fine art, sculpting, public installations and photography are eligible for nomination.
  • ImpACT Award for Theatre - Artists practising the disciplines of dance, acting, writing for theatre, musical theatre and physical theatre are eligible for nomination.
  • ImpACT Award for Music & Singing - classical, contemporary and jazz composers, musicians and singers are eligible for nomination.
  • ImpACT Award for Design - Artists working in the areas of craft, fashion design, graphic design and arts-based web design are eligible for nomination.

ACT is open for nominations for the ImpACT Awards for Young Professionals until 31 August 2013. Winners of ImpACT Awards are selected by an independent panel of judges and will be announced at the awards ceremony scheduled to take place in Johannesburg in November 2013. Nominations may be submitted at the ACT Awards link.

The 2013 ACT Awards Ceremony is presented in association with the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO), Media24 Books, the Vodacom Foundation and is supported by the Distell Foundation, CLASSICfeel Magazine and Business and Arts South Africa (BASA).
