In the movie he portrays a middle-aged man who is infatuated with a 23-year-old son of an old friend. "Skoonheid" was the first Afrikaans film to be shown at the Cannes Film Festival. It also won the Queer Palm award for its contribution to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues.
It has been selected as the South African entrant for the Best Foreign Language Film category at next year's Oscars and it has recently secured an American distribution deal with TLA releasing.
The movie was directed by Oliver Hermanus.
Tonight reports that it is hoped that "Skoonheid" will emulate "Tsotsi," which, in 2006 became the first South African movie to win an Oscar.
