Call to enter shrt. Film Festival

The call has been made for entries to the shrt. Film Festival, which focusses on films of no longer than five minutes duration. Submission deadline is 31 October, 2010
Call to enter shrt. Film Festival

It used to be 15 minutes of fame. But in the YouTube generation, budding directors will do anything to get just 15 seconds.

The proliferation of short, short films is an inevitable by-product of the social Internet and digital film era, which is precisely what makes shrt. different from your garden variety film festival.

Underground film makers

The idea behind shrt. is to create a platform for talented, underground film makers to showcase their forays into one of the most difficult genres to master, and certainly one of the most neglected when it comes to film festival circuit.

There's a vanguard of film makers with constricted budgets, ridiculous job hours, and an obsession with craft, creating shorts that linger in obscurity. But no one can deny that films are just better in a theatre environment. Whether they're 30 seconds or five minutes. So we want to give the audience and the directors that experience.

A variety of genres

All shrt. submissions will be under five minutes in duration, in a variety of genres from stop motion and animation to documentaries and music videos.

"We're still buttoning down the finer details, but we want to get the word out there so we can ensure we get as many entries as possible," said event co-ordinator Shawn Roos.
