Mbombela Music Festival launched

The first Mbombela Music Festival will be held on 9 July, 2011, at the Mbombela Stadium Precinct, Nelspruit. The festival will promote South African talent and will feature a host of leading South African artists and DJs.

Zakes Bantwini, Professor, Afro-pop king Theo Kgosinkwe and hip hop trio Teargas will perform backed by Mpumalanga Djs: DJ Chrizozo, DJ Madumane, DJ Stax and DJ Sdoko.

Zakes Bantwini, real name Zakhele Madida, is all about dance music. Zakes studied jazz music and is known for hit tracks like Shake Yo Bum Bum and Wasting My Time.

Kwaito artist Professor recently won three awards at this year's South African Music Awards: Best Kwaito-Male Artist Of The Year, the MTN Record Of The Year and the Best Kwaito Album. His eponymous album is regarded as having put Kwaito back on the map. Professor boastfully claims that his MTN record of the year Imoto will soon be a national anthem.

Theo Kgosinkwe, former Mafikizolo duo partner, is now pursuing a successful solo career. In 2009 he was awarded the Best Pop African Album at the SAMA's for his debut offering

I Am won an award at the 2011 SAMA awards in the category of the Best Pop African Album.

The hip hop group Teargas is made up of Ntokozo "KO" Mdluli and two brothers, Ezee "Ma-E" Hanabe and Bantu "Ntukza" Hanabe. The group's album boasts hits like the Teargas Anthem and the award-winning Chance. Teargas won three awards for Best Album, Best Hip Hop and Song Of The Year at the Metro FM Awards in 2006. In 2009 Teargas emerged a winner in the Best Rap category for the album "WafaWafa".
