Levi's® Vintage Sunday returns to Cape Town
Gerald Clark gets things off to a bluesy start on the 7th June when he takes to the stage with his acoustic folk lovesongs. Next up is the Albert Frost Band, a group of much-loved musos who share common blues roots and an unmatched ability to connect with an audience. Rounding it all off is Lonesome Dave Ferguson, the one-man music machine who manages to induce the groove with nothing more than a harmonica and his incredibly versatile voice. It's a spectacular opening night, with a trio of exceptional, unique acts all bent on making you fall further in love with local music.
One week later on the 14th Hot Water opens with their unique fusion of African melodies and powerful, uplifting vocals. It's soul music with a twist of blues and a dash of the unknown. They're followed by the prolific Flat Stanley who, after making waves overseas, are happy to bring their melodic rock back to South African shores. They're always a revelation live and all you need for a power-packed evening.
On the 21st three more top acts set the stage on fire. First up is the Jitsvinger Acoustic Trio, built around hip hop head Quintin Goliath. This is rap in the mother-tongue, a homegrown blend of powerful poetry. They're followed by Ezra with that incredible voice that first made itself known on Idols and has since gone on to win fans across the country with sensual, soulful performances. The evening ends off with Rus Nerwich's super-group. A varied crew enlisted to perform work from his album Under the Poetree, they'll be getting people up for a jamming session that fuses funk to soul and hip-hop to jazz.
On the final Sunday in June - the 28th - Jade Lounge plays host to another trio of excellence. Starting things off is Farryl Purkiss, the man with a golden voice and heartfelt guitar performances who's going to show exactly why he spends most of his time on the road gigging. He's followed by Tina Schouw, the singer and songwriter whose eclectic taste and intuitive ear have seen her collaborate with dancers, poets and thespians. Ending the night, and Levi's® Vintage Sundays' June run, is Simon van Gend, a guitarist and singer whose depth and insight are matched only by his unique, catchy take on folk and rock. It's going to be a grand finale to a spectacular opening month with more to come in July.
