#MusicExchange: Ntsika

Ntsika started working professionally in 2010 with the internationally acclaimed acapella group The Soil; he is one of the key members in the band as well as the lead composer.

Ntsika has just released hisĀ debut solo album entitledĀ I Write What I Dream.Ā He will be performingĀ on the Moses Molelekwa Stage at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival on Saturday, 30Ā March 2019 at 10pm. I caught up with him, last week.

When are you happiest?

When I’m on stage.

WhatĀ is the most enjoyable aspect of yourĀ work?

Getting to change people’s moods instantly.

What do you think ofĀ influencers?

I like them more when they are part of life-changing campaigns.

What drives you: ego orĀ humility?

I’d like to think of what drives me as “heightened confidence”.

AnyĀ funnyĀ momentsĀ onĀ stage?

Forgetting my lyrics on stage and making a comic meal out of it.

It’s your round, what are youĀ drinking?

Dry red wine.

Dream gig toĀ do?

The Womad Festival in Spain.

What makes you standĀ out?

My spiritual connection with music.

Fana Mayiza.

If youĀ wereĀ not aĀ musician, whatĀ would youĀ do?

A superb professional soccer player.

Win a Grammy and an Oscar in the same year.

Your greatestĀ achievement?

My debut solo album,Ā I Write What I Dream.

What do you complain about mostĀ often?

Not singing enough, Lol. Once I start I don’t usually want to stop.

What is yourĀ fear?

Waking up one day and not being excited about taking over the world.

On stage, I tendĀ to?

Smile a lot and laugh at my own dry jokes.

The best life lesson you have been taught?

“The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win.”

Where would you like to be right now?

On a world tour.

Do you do charity work and, if you do, what do youĀ do?

Yes, I do. I conduct music workshops.

Wishes andĀ dreams?

ForĀ I Write What I DreamĀ to be a global soundtrack to people’s lives.
