Deborah Cox, Third World to perform at Soweto International Jazz Festival
The inaugural Soweto International Jazz Festival will be held at the at the Johannesburg Theatre Group's Soweto Theatre Festival Complex in Johannesburg from 14-17 June 2018. The festival is dedicated to the historical region of Johannesburg and it will have its own theme for each day: Celebration of Our Future, Power of Women, International Night and Inspiration.
The four-day festival is not only limited to jazz as the name suggests. The lineup comprises multi-genres such as soul, contemporary, and African music. To broaden the horizon and scope, Grammy award-winning artists like Third World, Bob James, Deborah Cox, Spyro Gyra, and the Neville Brothers will grace the stage. South African jazz and R&B stars such as Ernie Smith, Zama Jobe, and the legendary Charlie Wilson will be performing alongside local gospel artist Khaya Mthethwa. To add a youthful flavour to the festival local artists such as Nasty C, Lady Zamar, Major League DJs, and many more will also be featured on the lineup.
The Soweto International Jazz Festival is not only conceptualised to entertain but to also educate through the power of music and art. As a result, the celebrations will be centred on the tribute of the late legendary jazz musician, Hugh Masekela and the centenary of the late former president Nelson Mandela.
