#MusicExchange: Strange Loving

Roland Rowley, Dakin Auret and Kosta Karatamoglou, from EDM act Strange Loving, have recently scored a number one on the iTunes Jazz Chart with their classic remake/ remix of the seminal Sipho “Hotstix “Mabuse track Burnout, which was released some thirty odd years ago.

The 2017 version of the track was released on Friday, 7 July 2017 and has a Daft Punk retro feel. I caught up with the young men to find out what music means to them and more…

#MusicExchange: Strange Loving

What does music mean to you?

Music is a chance to make whatever is in your head come to life and in turn see how people react, sometimes amazing, sometimes… are these guys for real?

Have you had any funny moments on stage?

We have had so many, I think the funniest are the ones that are pretty darn serious that can be laughed at a few months later. Like sipping one to many Corona’s and pulling out the USB, and the crowd of, let’s say around 2,500 people, just starring at you… Then you obviously shout for the sound technician, making it look like it’s their fault.

Who are your heroes?

Each other, for being able to stay friends during all the madness! Otherwise, we all have producers and people we look up to… Jamie Jones, Chromeo, etc. It really varies, but these are the ones in music.

Which living person do you admire most and why?

George Clooney - just because he is totally badass and can drink like five Nespresso coffees’ a day without having an anxiety attack.

It’s your round, what are you drinking?

Brandy and a little coke!

What is the song you wished you had written?

Justice – The Phantom II

Can you give us some real proper slang and say what it means?

Ow Cuzz – It’s the word we use to greet humans.
E.g. “Ow Cuzz, are you keen to play some badminton later?”

What is at the top of your bucket list?

World peace.

What would be your greatest achievement?

Just getting to do what we love every single day... Netflix and chill.

What do you complain about most often?

Slow internet.

What is your fear?

What do you tend to do on stage?

We drink a bucket load of Corona and promote using Uber to get us home safely.

If you are walking on stage for a keynote speech alla Barak Obama what song would you use and why?

Chamillionaire - Ridin' ft. Krayzie Bone. I guess because all politicians are dirty in some way or another.

What has been the best life lesson that you’ve been taught?

Just be as honest as you can, cause then you never lie.

Where would you like to be right now?

In west Philadelphia, where we were born and raised.
