Believe it cause it's true

Born eight years ago, long before Jack Parow and Die Antwoord, Corné and Twakkie are probably the first satirical zeffers ever, maybe. What with their porn star mo's, tight shorts (that are dangerously far from the knees) and mangled Afrikaans accents and sayings, Corné and Twakkie are the epitome of zef. Well aware of this they included a quick parody of Die Antwoord's Enter the Ninja in their Most Amazing Show last Friday night. (Aiie aiie aaa, I am your dragonfly.)
Believe it cause it's true

A very Booshian affair

There is something wonderfully endearing about the two; I think it's the chemistry, there is no denying it. Like peanut butter and jam, Bella and Edward, Barry Ronge and a chocolate brownie, the Love Captain and his Seaman belong together. Watching the show on Friday, I was struck by the Mighty Boosh-ness of it; the comedic duo, wonderful song-and-dance numbers and general all-round silliness gives The Most Amazing Show a very Booshian (fancy word I just made up) air. A totally kif compliment indeed. Add to this some insightful political commentary a la Julius Malema, and Media Freedom and you have a totally not kak show ...

... for the most part that is. The main problem with the show for me is the accents. As interesting as they are, it makes understanding what the two say difficult at the best of times (and I would imagine if you were a foreigner it would be pretty much all be indecipherable), which is a pity as you feel you are missing out on some comedy gems. There is also a rather forced and laboured feeling to some of the routines. For me, the two shine when doing a more improvised style, when they chat to members of the audience, include them in skits and ride them like ponies. The highlight of the night was when they made love to the audience Love Captain style. Basically, jumping over seats and people, and dry humping a few here and there they felt particularly affectionate towards. We narrowly avoided an encounter from Twakkie, who was distracted by a pregnant women with an unearthly laugh in the row behind us.
