Once an original 1930s' post office, the Monarch Hotel, Rosebank, Johannesburg, which is known for its ambience of old-world charm with period-like interiors and classical and contemporary furnishings, has become part of the Mantis portfolio.

A prominent landmark on Oxford Road, the Monarch is a glamorous yet eclectic setting of wrought-iron entrances, rich fabrics, muted marble, brass banisters, panelled walls and ceilings with bespoke contemporary finishes.

Boasting 11 luxurious suites and one presidential suite, the Monarch prides itself on the rich cultural history of Johannesburg and welcomes its guests in modern style and traditional charm. Overlooking the tranquil internal courtyard and plush gardens, the "presidential" suite includes a private entrance with entrance hall, security lobby, private chef's kitchen, rest room, spacious lounge with business desk, a dining room that seats 10 guests and a grand piano, while the separate bedroom boasts a vanity, king-sized bed, lounge and double bathroom.

A variety of suites

Six sizeable "deluxe" suites consist of two Terrace Suites, two Royal Suites and two Coronation Suites, include exclusive neo-classical appointed interiors, entrance hall, rest room, lounge and dining areas, and king-sized bedroom and bathroom with options of garden courtyards views or private terraces.

A further five standard luxury suites, each 51m² in size, consist of a king-sized bedroom, vanity, lounge area, en suite bathroom with separate shower and rest room. Four of the luxury suites offer courtyard views whilst one provides a view over Oxford Road and beyond.

All suites are immaculately furnished and equipped with modern technology, Internet connection, fine linen, luxurious amenities and bestow personal dedicated services.

A casual menu for drinks and light snacks

Furnished with relaxed settees and contemporary art, the hotel's lounges provide a casual menu for drinks and light snacks. Guests can also afford the pleasure of relaxing on the terrace overlooking the garden courtyard and enjoy an alfresco lunch from the a la carte menu.

The establishment features a restaurant and a bar where guests can enjoy "cuisine vital'' dishes complemented with fine local and international wines.

Chef Keith Frisely is fundamentally influenced by fresh ingredients, clarity and natural infused flavours. Having worked at exclusive establishments such as The Westcliff, Hilton and The Michelangelo, Frisely prepares a high standard of gastronomical pleasures. He generates a seasonal seven-course tasting menu of seasonal and authentic cuisine with the option of each course being available as a starter or main.

In the bar lounge, guests are invited to enjoy tapas, drinks and refreshing cocktails.

Exclusive dinners, cocktails functions and conferences

Events are arranged for exclusive dinners, cocktails functions and conferences. The Monarch caters up to 90 guests in the main dining room, 40 guests in the cocktail lounge, 30 guests in the function room, up to 10 guests each in the two private dining rooms and 12 guests in the boardroom with secretarial reception office.
