Miss Soweto donates 160 units of White Star products to the Rena Le Lona Creative Centre for Children in Soweto

In the spirit of giving especially during yet another tough year of surviving the pandemic, Miss Soweto 2020 Thobile Steyn ended the year off by returning to the Rena Le Lona Creative Centre for Children located in Diepkloof Zone 6, in Soweto on 9 December to handover 160 Units of White Star products to the centre. Meaning "We are with you", Rena Le Lona is a healing centre for orphans and vulnerable children. The Centre offers 117 children in the area a safe place for them to spend their afternoons with coaches harnessing the medium of art to allow them to deal with loss and allow them the chance to lead meaningful and fulfilled lives.

Thobile Steyn who recently passed over the crown to new reigning queen Miss Soweto 2021 Ludina Ngwenya, shared some highlights during her reign and says that giving back has been her most fulfilling experience, which she will cherish and continue to undertake. Steyn said she will forever be grateful for the opportunity and one of the best things that this opportunity has brought is that her love for helping and doing the best for others became so much easier. Her successes during the journey includes projects such as her school shoe drive, motivating young girls who aspire to be in pageants and undertaking sanitary towel drives.

Steyn shared that while she enjoyed her reign, her biggest challenge was trying to complete her Honours degree while doing her Miss Soweto duties. She says she managed to conquer this and pass with flying colours all thanks to the support of her loved ones.

Thobile hopes to continue on with a lot of initiatives such as career guidance so that she can help provide more skills to the people of Soweto and to continue assisting students with registering at a higher institution of learning. Another project she hopes will become a success is her current #EndGenerationalStigma Mental health awareness project. She hopes this project shines a light on the issues of mental health among young people in Soweto and hopefully prevent any future suicide attempts from occurring. Thobile says she is considering doing more pageants in the future and the best is still yet to come.
