RattRace calls for support for a worthy cause

This year's seventh RattRace is aiming to outdo previous years. The event, which supports the David Rattray Foundation, will be taking place on the weekend of 19-21 July 2013. The organisers are appealing to all potential sponsors for any form of assistance, be it financial, prizes, products or services. There are also still a number of places available for riders and runners who are keen to take part.

Held in the picturesque area around Fugitive's Drift, the RattRace is a 15-20 km or 30-40 km mountain bike or trail run to be held on Saturday, 20 July 2013. The race will take place around the historic battlefields of Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana, amongst some of the country's most spectacular scenery and has grown from its small beginnings in 2007 into a popular date on the calendar for professional and amateur athletes alike.

Upliftment and reconciliation

All proceeds from the RattRace - entry fees and sponsorships - will go to the David Rattray Foundation and you can show your support by entering yourself or sponsoring an athlete. A whole weekend of activities has been planned around the Saturday morning race, offering fun for the whole family.

"The RattRace was started by a bunch of our mates many years ago. We wanted to do something in honour of my late husband, David, who did so much good while he was alive, and now, even in his death, is still able to contribute to this community and continue to live through this foundation, making this world a beter place to be," says Fugitives Drift owner and race organiser Nicky Rattray.

The RattRace 2013 combines loads of fun and outdoor activity with raising funds for a good cause - the David Rattray Foundation, which aims to further the cause of reconciliation between the people of South Africa, which was the focus of so much of David Rattray's work both in South Africa and internationally. The proceeds raised by the RattRace will go towards locally based upliftment projects specifically in the area of education in Northern KwaZulu-Natal that the foundation supports.
