Nedbank Matha Series Tshwane is getting tougher for top athletes

The Nedbank Tshwane Matha Series half marathon is the first event in the 2009 ASA calendar. It boasts a total prize money over R200 000 with the winner for both men and women set to pocket R20 000, 2nd place R15 000 and 3rd place R10 000 in cash.

Wirimai Juwawo who took the first place in last year's race with a time of 1:04:35, is heading to SA from Zimbabwe, to defend his title. The Lesotho contingent has not held back, and have entered more than twenty runners from the Toyota Running Club. Some of the top names are Mabothile Lebopo, Warinyane Lebopo, Moeketsi Mosuhli and Lebenya Nkoka.

Amongst the top SA athletes that have confirmed their participation is Hendrik Ramaala who took second place last year with a time of 01 hr 05 min and 41 sec. Richard Mavuso, Lewis Masunda, Benedict Moeng, George Mofokeng and Enos Matalane are expected to grace the scenes and provide stiff opposition to runners from Lesotho and Zimbabwe alike.

Ladies that have confirmed their participation are Thabitha Tsatsa, Sharon Tavenga and Samukeliso Moyo.

Late entries will be accepted at Pilditch Stadium on Friday, 16 January from 8h00 to 18h00. Collection of race number will be done on Friday as well at the same venue.

The main race will start at 6h00 at the High Performance Centre whilst the 5km Fun Run will start at 6h30.
