Sport News South Africa

Mark Gleeson joins Sport24 as a columnist.

Sport24 announced today that Mark Gleeson - a giant of both the South African media and soccer scene - has been signed up as a columnist.

The acquisition will add great depth to the soccer coverage on Sport24.

Gleeson's main focus will be on the build-up to the 2009 Confederations Cup, and the state of South African football (both on and off the field) as the country gears up for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, now just a year and a half away.

Sport24 Editor and Publisher, Andrew “Tank” Lanning, is delighted to welcome Gleeson to Sport24. “It gives me great pleasure to welcome Mark Gleeson into the fold of Sport24 columnists. Our aim is to add value to the sports fan through offering not only the breaking news first, but also adding analysis, insight and opinion via our columnists. And having worked with Mark before when he was the editor of Kickoff magazine, I know him to be a man not shy to have his say - something I encourage from all our columnists. Mark no longer needs an introduction such is his prowess in the field of soccer journalism, and in the build up to the most important event in South Africa's sporting history, I can think of no better person to spearhead Sport24's coverage.”

Sport24, since the redesign and official launch in September 2008, continues to make its mark on the South African online sporting scene, regularly generating over 300 000 Unique Browsers, who use Sport24.co.za for their breaking news, results, blogs, live scoring, video and picture galleries and of course expert columnists.
