WOSA (Wines of South Africa) is kicking off its first-ever Sommelier World Cup. The 12 finalists, representing various countries from around the world, will be hosted in South Africa for a week-long tour of the winelands, visiting some of the Cape's most prestigious wineries.
The eight-month-long competition (which has held heats worldwide) will culminate with the final on 16 October, 2010, at the Grande Roche Hotel and Restaurant, where all sommeliers will be put through their paces by a panel of judges.
Apart from meeting and tasting with some of South Africa's award-winning winemakers, the finalists will also be dining in some of South Africa's iconic restaurants and exploring the wonderfully diverse cuisine on offer, including Grande Roche's Bosman's Restaurant, where a gourmet dinner will be prepared by executive chef Roland Gorgosilich, to welcome the international guests.
