This indoor and outdoor upmarket eatery with views towards the harbour along Quay 5 is a favourite for tourists and locals alike - and after sampling some of the menu it's easy to see why.

For our starters we shared a portion of mussels infused in a chilli, coriander, ginger, coconut cream and sake broth. OMG, I wanted to bathe in that broth - so so good. In fact, I had to shoo away at least three different members of staff who tried to clear the almost empty bowl, as I was trying to mop up every last drop with the equally amazing just-out-of-the-oven crusty bread.
To be honest, I totally overdid it on the bread and broth and hardly had any space for the remaining courses. However, for the sake of journalism, I forged ahead and ordered the salmon with Asian-style soya and ginger dipping sauce. This came with a portion of chips, butternut and creamed spinach. While my partner ordered the whole baby kingklip with a creamy garlic sauce. Both fish dishes were light and fresh and wholly satisfying.

For dessert we managed to fit in a few bites of the warm & gooey chocolate almond brownie-like tart served with vanilla ice cream; however this really did push me into food coma territory.
The staff were supremely helpful and attentive, and courses were brought out in record time. In fact, I think we may have waited less than 10 minutes between each. Drinks were constantly topped up and even a fresh fruit platter was presented between the main course and dessert. Though, to be honest, I only managed about one grape. Damn you delicious crusty bread!
Seelan really does tick all the boxes when it comes to elegant dining; beautiful venue, attentive staff and, above all, tasty plates of food.
