    Live it large at the J&B Met

    Larger Than Life is the theme of the 34th J&B Met, which will be held at Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday, 29 January 2011. Expect massive outfits, oversized accessories and gigantic personalities at the well-known fashion event.

    The event has become a gathering of party starters who seek to explore the thrill of the event. Close to 50 000 will attend the horse-racing event at Kenilworth Racecourse.

    This year's theme "Larger than life" is a salute to the spontaneous, a tip of the hat to the unconventional, a bow to the bold and a high-five to the unexpected. Dress to match your larger-than-life personality. Expect to see massive outfits, oversized accessories and gigantic personalities.

    It's the one day that Cape Town, known for its spectacular beauty, is swathed in its most elegant, glorious and fashionable creations, and when race-goers step out in all their finery.

    The country's hottest designers are already hard at work, creating to the theme, ensuring everyone looks the part on race day. Many designers dedicate entire ranges to the J&B Met, turning one of the traditionally quietest retail fashion months into a bonanza.

    Most Elegant Couple Competition

    The J&B Most Elegant Couple Competition is now divided into a pre-judging competition, which selects the top-16 finalists who showcase their outfits on the main stage at 1.45pm.

    The finals are judged by a panel including: Ryk Neethling, Mike Mol, Jo-Ann Strauss, Roxy Louw, Jeanne D and the YFM Twins Hlelo, and Ntando Masina and Roland Jonathan from J&B. The prizes match the event with holidays, gorgeous jewellery and Cavendish Square gift vouchers dominating the list. The event, hosted by eTV's news anchor James Lennox, takes place on the main stage at 3.05pm.

    The race day consist of 10 top races with the J&B Met scheduled as race seven of the day at 4.20pm.

    And then there are the horses: 16 of finest 2000-metre specialists in the country, ready to challenge champion River Jetez and her famous blood brother Pocket Power for a share of the massive purse of R2.5 million.

    General tickets to the J&B Met cost R165 each and allow access to Kenilworth Racecourse only and not to any of the reserved areas in the buildings and the marquee village. Tickets are available online from www.webtickets.co.za. The event is not open to persons under the age of 18.
