With plenty of glitter and some quick costume changes, the audience is kept amused for the entire show by song choice and the between-songs patter. It is clear that the ladies enjoy the performance as much as the audience and most definitely have the talent to belong in the spotlight.
While most of the show ranges from amusing to outrageously funny, the repertoire has enough variety, with touches of pathos and a smattering of bitterness, to keep it from being one-dimensional. However, even the bitter and sad numbers are done with a slight twist, so the mood of the show is never sombre and down. During the performance, the women reveal little snippets of personal information about themselves, whether real or imagined is irrelevant, as it engages the audience in an intimacy that works well in this venue.
Garth Tavares, the director, accompanies the performers on the piano and helps fill the rare lull during costume changes.
The show will be performed until 16 March, from Wednesday to Saturday at the Kalk Bay Theatre. The doors open at 6.30pm and the show starts at 8.30pm. Tickets are R100 and packages that include a ticket and a two- or three-course meal are available. Bookings can be made at www.kbt.co.za.
