Tourism Association initiatives repackage and market Midrand from a business tourism perspective

Officially launched in November last year, and with the full backing of the Johannesburg City Council and the Johannesburg Tourism Company, the Midrand Tourism Association is well on its way to driving initiatives that will reposition Midrand as Joburg's business tourism hub.

One of the initiatives of the Midrand Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a voluntary Executive Committee is already implementing the first of several long term initiatives to create opportunity for empowerment of travel and tourism related stakeholders in Midrand and surrounds.

Receiving first place priority is a bid to retain the honour of playing host to the Pan African Parliament, which is temporarily being housed at Midrand's sprawling conference and exhibition centre, Gallagher Estate. Other projects include the establishment of a "Midrand Wine and Gourmet Tour" and a bid to the 2010 SAFA Organising Committee to host one or more of the 2010 World Cup Soccer Events in Midrand.

A Midrand Township Tourism forum has already been established to demarcate a Midrand Township Tourism Route, to formalise and market this unique and to-date untapped cultural tourism element.

Job creation within travel and tourism related industries in Midrand and surrounds underpins each of these projects, with potential benefits set to spill-over into all sectors of business in the area, and ultimately the greater Johannesburg, and parts of Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.

Potential stakeholders in tourism related industries which are located in, and/or do business with industry in Midrand and surrounds, are invited to contact the Midrand Chamber of Commerce and Industry for more information.
