Video team follows 10-day cycle tour, ending off with Comrades
Producing daily videos on the progress of the five-man team; their highs and lows as well as their physical, mental and emotional journeys, will be a test of endurance for not only the sportsmen, but for REC too.
"Biggest challenge"
"Our team will be filming for ten hours a day while we drive at 20km an hour. Our editor will then work throughout the night in order to have the videos ready to be sent via email every morning by 5am for broadcast on Expresso on SABC 3. Our biggest challenge will be to ensure that we get enough sleep and don't burn out midway through," says Mike Wood, head of REC.
The Unogwaja team embody the true spirit of the Comrades by displaying camaraderie, passion, courage and determination while remembering the important history and tradition of the event. Initiated to follow the footsteps of the Comrades Legend, Phil Masterton-Smith, who, unable to afford the train fare from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg in 1933, cycled the distance and then competed in the ultimate human race, finishing in 10th position.
Follow the challenge on SABC 3 daily at 5am on Expresso, YouTube, Facebook, @TheUnogwaja on Twitter and www.unogwajachallenge.com.
