Select a winning Total Eco-Pioneer

Total South Africa is encouraging South Africans to be more eco-friendly by running a social media campaign and competition that highlights those who have innovative projects aimed at assisting the environment or taking recycling to a new level.
Select a winning Total Eco-Pioneer

The campaign, called Eco-Pioneers, will see the winner receiving R20 000 towards furthering his or her eco-friendly project.

The six finalists, from around South Africa are:

  • Flame Africa - Louis Barnard from Sasolburg uses recycled paper to produce energy bricks that low income households can use to for cooking and heating
  • Wren Design - Cape Town-based Wendren Setzer uses 100% recycled bags made from natural and non-synthetic substances to make attractive, practical bags for a variety of purposes
  • Canzibe Primary School at Motherwell, Port Elizabeth, which champions sustainable gardening and water practices at the school and in the neighbouring community
  • Fresh Air Factory - a Durban-based outfit that turns consumer waste such as plastic cold drink bottles into reusable packaging - it also enables community members to earn a living with very little capital
  • Raw Honey - a Gauteng-based business that produces totally natural honey and beeswax products and beverages
  • Zenobia Baumgarten - a Bothaville resident who only decorates her house with recycled objects which she and her husband have collected and crafted into decorations

The public may vote for one of these projects through Facebook or Twitter (@TotalSAfrica).
