Event Organiser's Network celebrates 10th annual conference

The Event Organiser's Network (EON) celebrated its 10th annual Conference & Event Showcase on Spring Day at Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre in Johannesburg. The occasion attracted 120 exhibitors and over 500 delegates, nearly all sporting a spring theme.

“The event has come a long way from its idea of getting our venue and events service members to chat to fellow members in the events organising business for a morning,” says Wayne Steven-Jennings, MD of EON.

The day’s events offered professional conference organisers and events managers from the public and private sector an opportunity to network with exhibitors and listen to a selection of professional speakers from Unique Speakers Bureau (USB) and entertainers and comedians from Hands On Promotions. A fire walk or a broken glass walk with Cobus Visser enlivened the day for some brave guests.

Port Elizabeth is next

“Last year, we opened our first event in Cape Town with 100 attendees for a morning, this year the event attracted 285 people until a 3pm close. Durban started this year with a morning event and we had been told not to expect more than 80 people, so we were pleasantly surprised with the 200 who turned out. Next year, we will run a morning session for Port Elizabeth and we hope this will also surpass our expectations.

“We also have a mobile showcase, which offers our service providers an opportunity to go to towns that have events organisers who do not get the opportunity to visit Johannesburg. It also offers local venues a chance to show off their properties.

“Finally, the prizes donated by the venues always make the event so exciting – from bronze to platinum, the sponsors provided wonderful complimentary holiday breaks, both local and international. Through an extensive site tour, Birchwood created a mystery tour, rewarding one team with a R10,000 cash prize," concludes Steven-Jennings.
