2006 SAACI Awards winners announced

The 2006 Fellowship and Personality of the Years awards, given annually by the Southern African Association for the Conference Industry (SAACI) since 1997, have respectively gone to past SAACI Western Cape chairman Koos Myburgh and past KwaZulu-Natal chairman Carol Macnab. The announcements were made at its national conference in Durban last week.

SAACI national chairman Denise Kemp says Myburgh and Macnab are true conference industry leaders and worthy SAACI award winners:

"Koos Myburgh still serves on the SAACI board and continues to ensure that SAACI remains at the forefront of the business tourism industry. Carol Macnab, among others, initiated the student bursary project in KwaZulu-Natal, and has been instrumental in putting together the branch bylaws.

"Both Koos and Carol deserve the recognition of our association on a national level. We look forward to continue working with them to grow SAACI and the professionalism of the conference industry in South Africa."

The Fellowship award goes to a member who has had a minimum of ten years of service and who has made a positive contribution to the development of SAACI, while the Personality of the Year award is made to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the conference industry over the past year.

Nominations are received from SAACI members and the winners are chosen by a specially appointed panel.

SAACI's more than 800 members represent a variety of sectors within the conference industry, including conference venues, professional conference organisers and a large variety of services such as audiovisual, entertainment, décor and catering.

The association is a member of the South African Meetings Industry Federation (SAMIF).
