National Geographic Kids Magazine will donate R10 from every subscription sold in April to the SPCA branch nearest to the donator's town or city, so that all branches benefit from the drive.
The April issue, themed PETS, features the wild and wonderful animal world and all its interesting inhabitants and naturally seemed to be the perfect issue in which to run a
campaign of this nature.
NGKids Editor Fiona Thomson comments: "The SPCA is not just about abandoned cats or dogs that need good homes, it's an organisation that looks after the welfare of all kinds of animals from farmyard ducks to wild elephants.
"Theirs is a mammoth task and they need our help."
The success of NGKids has resulted in an increase in the number of annual issues, from 10 to 11, which means more fun, exciting and educational reading for kids around the country.
