Justine Drake appointed Pick 'n Pay mag editor
Justine Drake has been appointed as editor of Pick 'n Pay's new customer title, the first magazine created and managed by John Brown South Africa (JBSA), it was announced today, Friday, 12 October 2007. JBSA is the new joint venture between UK customer publishing giant John Brown and Media24.
Drake, who currently edits the annual Eat In guide, began her career as food editor for FairLady, followed by Men's Health, Shape and Discovery magazines. With more than 18 years experience in the food-media industry, Drake presented and co-produced the award-winning television series Just in Africa and is author of several cookbooks. In 2004 Drake was voted Media24 Editorial Producer of the Year and Galliova Food Writer of the Year. In 2005 she was voted #11 Most Popular BBC TV chef worldwide.
November launch
The magazine, to be launched in November 2007, will be distributed nationally throughout Pick ‘n Pay's 365 stores and, according to Drake, is aimed at a broad demographic of mostly female consumers shopping for their family.
Providing an inspirational mix of food and lifestyle features for customers, Drake says the magazine will be full of simple yet innovative ideas for cooking while showcasing Pick ‘n Pay's full range of products for the home.
Drake is adamant that the title will be a practical food magazine for everyone and hopes to encourage the concept of cooking with the best ingredients and preparing good food as inclusive rather than exclusive.
“There is definitely a need in the market for a food publication with practical and authoritative information suited to a wide readership. With readers juggling home, family and work the magazine will showcase the amazing range of food offered by Pick ‘n Pay by providing thousands of Pick ‘n Pay customers, from Sandton to Soweto, with real mealtime solutions, plus great tips on entertaining,” says Drake.
Highlight social responsibility
In addition, the magazine will support Pick ‘n Pay's social responsibility programmes by highlighting some of the great things that Pick ‘n Pay is doing – not only for their customers but for local producers and their communities too.
