Club Med's Marketing Manager Southern Africa, Lesego Matabane tells us more on why we travel.
Let's face it, all work and no play is no fun; we all need a break from time to time. The stress of daily life takes a toll on our health and general wellbeing - we need to escape. Being in a different environment rejuvenates our minds and bodies, whether it's a lazy sunny beach holiday or an active ski adventure in the French Alps. The idea is to relax, unwind and reenergize your body and mind by indulging in whatever it is that rocks your boat.
Our world is busy. We have demanding jobs and other obligations that are oftentimes out of our control. Before you know it, a week has gone by and you have not had more than one meal with the family. There is just not enough time to spend with loved ones. Travel allows us the time and space to reconnect and bring families and friends together, without interruption.
Sometimes the routine of everyday life day gets bland and we naturally develop a burning desire to spice things up and explore life beyond our norm. Travel brings prospects for discovery, for new adventures and excitement. Some of us prefer exploring food from foreign lands while others seek different landscapes and natural endowments. Travel gives us the opportunity to explore these interests and satisfy our natural desire for newness.
It was St. Augustine who said "The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only a page." Through travel we engage other cultures, and learn about how other people live, eat, sing and dance. Different destinations offer different cultural experiences and the opportunity to immerse yourself in. For example, learning how to make noodles in China or dabbing in art workshops in Italy. Opportunities to learn when traveling are endless.
And finally, the infamous bucket list. Most of us who are eager travelers and explorers, have a bucket list that we tick off with each destination we travel. The list varies from person to person, from swimming with Dolphins, interacting with Elephants in Bali to taking selfies on the Eifel Tower. You get the gist. There are many other reasons why people travel. Whatever your reason may be - let the world be your oyster.
