Gauteng to host West Rand District Tourism Awards

The West Rand District Municipality in association with Gauteng Tourism will host the 7th Annual West Rand District Municipality Tourism Awards in honor and recognition of those who continue to promote and display service excellence in the travel and tourism industry in the region. The awards will take place on Friday, 20 June 2014.

Taking place at Mount Usambara in Krugersdorp, just outside the Silverstar Casino, the night which is billed as the night of the "blue stars" is aimed at celebrating and honoring business establishments and individuals who have consistently provided quality and excellent services in various categories across the tourism value chain. These establishments include products that promote township tourism, eco-tourism and responsible tourism practices.

"We are excited and proud of the track record set by the West Rand District Municipality in consistently awarding and rewarding tourism service excellence over the past seven years," explains Dawn Robertson, CEO of Gauteng Tourism.

The West Rand District is the home to Gauteng's only World Heritage Site and a connecting point with the Platinum Corridor that links the golden province with North West province thus creating a viable economic corridor that grows and supports the visitor economy irrespective of geographic and political boundaries. "For us in Gauteng we value the role and contribution of the District in improving our tourism offerings especially with its unique and exceptional experiences", concluded Robertson.

Tourism Excellence Awards will be presented on the night to the following categories, Accommodation, Food & Beverage, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events), Tourist Guides, Tour Operators and Tourism Experiences & Activities.
