Gwen Watkins, a Certified Meetings Professional, by the Convention Industry Council, Washington DC US, has written the book, based on her 20-year experience in the industry and her lecturing background in the subjects at several tertiary institutions. The book is accompanied by a CD, which includes the solutions to the end-of-chapter questions.
"The book has a substantial section on Risk Management and Project Management, both of which are essential for events managers," says Watkins. "It is more of a practical 'how to' guide rather than exploring theory. It also includes greening events, which is becoming an international and local requirement. The examples draw on real events and include useful South African links to add to the reader's knowledge.
"I run short courses on conferences, events and exhibitions, incorporating information from the textbook, which is given to delegates as part of the course."
