'Guide to South African Brands, Barcodes, Prices' launched

A digital book, 'Guide to South African Brands, Barcodes and Average Prices', has been released by Retail Price Watch to provide the retail industry with a comprehensive reference to those products that regularly find their way into household shopping baskets in South Africa.

The guide comprises more than 20,000 grocery products in the categories baby products, food, beverages, household necessities, personal care and pet food.

More than 2000 consumer brands, together with their associated product pack descriptions and sizes, barcodes, and average prices for 2012, are covered in the guide. Monthly prices for 2013 and the names of the more than 40 stores where the prices have been collected can be found on the website.

It has 1300 pages and is intended to be a reference for manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers and analysts in the FMCG market.

Easier access

"The book was published in response to the popularity of the website, which in its first full year of operation attracted more than 61,000 unique visitors and more than 215,000 page views, many from the industry," says Viccy Baker of Retail Price Watch holding company Red Gekko, which co-authored the book with US-based analyst Terence Kirk.

"We sought to provide them with easier access to the information, which is laid out in a clear and understandable format."
