GOMACC awards community directors

The Gauteng Organisation of Community Art Centres (Gomacc) saw its young protégés walk off with all the prizes on offer in the organisation's community theatre festival. All the winners at the latest leg of the competition in Merafong were students who had undergone the Gomacc director course.

"The intense three-month course of study has paid off handsomely. It was overwhelming to witness this large theatre filled to capacity as the local directors battled against each for the prizes," said the organisation's festival and operations manager Jerry Mabuza. He mentioned that was inspiring to see the youth engage in theatre.

The R1 000 first prize went to Thabo Ramaokana for the play "Nothing but the truth". Second prize worth R750 went to Sifiso Zimba for the play "Demo", while the third prize went to Sicelo Xaba for the play "Woza Albert". Xaba received R500. Naughty Leshomo received R350 for the most promising act prize for his play "The 3rd Testament".

The next festivals will take place in Ekurhuleni on 28 April and in Sedibeng on 5 May. The finals will take place mid-year.
