The handover took place at Nedbank's Head Offices in Sandown and was attended by the Nedbank Special Projects Team, Feed Our Nation and a representative of the Starfish Foundation.

Starfish Greathearts Foundation is an international development program that was established to bring life, hope and opportunity to orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa. Motivated by its founding parable, Starfish believes that each person can make a difference to the lives of children orphaned or left vulnerable by HIV/AIDS.

Help feed our nation

Feed Our Nation is a newly established Starfish initiative that strives to help make a difference and secure the future in thousands of orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa. This has been made possible by a unique feeding scheme where the public is encouraged to buy food directly from the website as well as via SMS rather than donate money, and in return the food is delivered directly to all the Starfish supported community-based areas.

Feed Our Nation has partnered with Zonke Foods, who supply 6-in-1 Meals, a samp based meal that contains a superior single source of daily energy and nutritional requirements. With every R15 donated, Feed Our Nation is able to feed eight children complete with a third of the recommended daily allowance of protein. And with the generous contribution made by Nedbank, Feed Our Nation will be able to supply 14,400 meals.

Calling all corporates

“We are delighted to welcome Nedbank as the first corporate supporter of Feed Our Nation. We would like to challenge corporate SA to embrace the Feed Our Nation initiative and offer ongoing support and assistance. Nutrition is one of the foundations of human life. Providing nutritional food to children made vulnerable or orphaned by Aids is a moral imperative in South Africa,” says Jerome Wiehe from Feed Our Nation.

The Feed Our Nation initiative has been sponsored by two of South Africa's telecommunications companies, Centratel and Mitel.
