No more boring vegetables
According to Linda Galvad, owner of Sought After Seedlings, “I have always believed that good health is not inherited but nurtured and that the answer to good health is good food - the fresher the better! With this philosophy in mind, and the fact that I was bored with the selection of vegetables out there, I started researching alternative varieties. In my research I came across pictures of purple cauliflower, broccoli and peas, round carrots, yellow carrots and beautiful candy-striped beetroot and was intrigued.”
One trip to Italy to experience what she calls “Franchi Sementi's magnificent works of art” and several months of correspondence and Linda was elected as the South African agent of Franchi Sementi seeds.
“Franchi Sementi seeds are open pollinating heritage/heirloom varieties that are grown to maintain the longevity of vegetables which have been around for hundreds of years, ensuring quality and exceptional taste. Nature takes care of their propagation, which means that they are not genetically engineered nor tampered with in any way. Besides the unique look, difference in taste and the obvious nutritional benefit of these vegetables, South Africans will also benefit from their high germination rate and long shelf life,” says Linda.
Since 1783, Franchi Sementi has offered its traditional Italian varieties of vegetables to discerning gardening and cooking enthusiasts in Europe, America and Australia. Now, South Africans too can experience them - go to www.soughtafterseedlings.co.za for more information.
