Riding out the economic storm
PR-Net is hosting a meeting in Cape Town on 24 February 2009 in an attempt to identify practical ways in which PR practitioners can deal with the global financial crisis. The guest speaker is Colin Douglas, a management consultant and writer who will share his experiences from the business world and the ocean.
Colin Douglas, according to PR-Net has advised corporations such as Anglo American, BP and Woolworths on how to adapt to major change and thrive in it. He is a keen sea kayaker, and believes that paddling on a stormy ocean offers lessons for managers and entrepreneurs during crises including:
Panicking will just make you more likely to capsize; staying calm under pressure is the way to find safe passage
Fixed ideas are more hindrance than help; be flexible enough to roll with the waves
Don't expend all your energy on fighting the immediate crisis; conserve your resources for the long haulThe venue for the meeting is Signal, a new restaurant at The Cape Grace Hotel, Waterfront from 5.30pm - 7.30pm
