Do you know these women?
The 2008 Shoprite Checkers / SABC2 Woman of the Year Award was launched yesterday Gauteng by Dr Mathews Phosa and attended by a host of influential role models representing the various categories of the award.
Celebrating its 13th anniversary as a major initiative for National Women's Day, the award pays tribute to the most exceptional and achieving women in the country who have not only achieved success in their own respective fields but who have made a tangible difference in communities and society as a whole.
South Africa has used the award to recognise phenomenal South African women for their unwavering commitment and dedication to making our nation a better place.
You are invited to participate in the search by nominating the country's best in seven categories: business entrepreneurs, health, education, social welfare, arts, culture and communications, sport, and science and technology.
Each of the seven category winners of the 2008 Shoprite Checkers / SABC2 Woman of the Year Award will receive R10,000 in prize money, while the overall winner will receive R30,000.
The closing date for entries is Friday, 9 May 2008 and South Africans who would like to enter candidates can simply visit their nearest Shoprite or Checkers store or SABC offices to collect entry forms.
Alternatively, download entry forms from the official website http://www.womanoftheyear.co.za or contact the organisers by e-mail on or 021 980 4285.
The award culminates in July 2008 with a gala evening in the Mother City to announce the winners. This event will be broadcast during prime time on Saturday, 9 August 2008, when the nation celebrates National Women's Day.
