Bank celebrates teen achievements

Launched in 2005 and sponsored by Standard Bank, the seventeen Top Teen Achiever Awards competition is an inspirational initiative focusing on great role models and the encouragement of teen girls to achieve their dreams.

The 2007 categories are:
* Do-gooder: For those ladies who dedicate their time to empowering others
* Next Big Thing: South Africa's upcoming acting, dancing, modelling or musical super stars
* Gold Medallist: For the sportiest lady out there
* Miss Independent: Those budding entrepreneurs looking to grow their business further

Coming from different backgrounds these young women persevered to be successful. The 2006 winners were a true inspiration for teen girls everywhere. “On behalf of all teenagers and seventeen addicts, much like myself, I would like to say that it is through your belief in teenagers and what we are capable of, that we feel as if we have a future. The seventeen Top Teen Achiever Awards has made me feel so confident in myself, I am now able to look in the mirror feeling as if I have success to look forward to,” says Sumayah Adamjee, winner of the Whizz kid category 2006.

Sarah-Anne Orphanides, the bank's group marketing director, explains, “We strive to embrace and give young women the opportunity to focus their efforts on where their passion lies. We are proud of these young achievers and their accomplishments and we look forward to these dynamic and innovative young women as the future leaders of South Africa. The ladies who participate in the Top Teen Achiever Awards are inspiring and will with a doubt continue with their exceptional standards of achievement in their respective futures.”

After a lengthy judging process, the four overall winners (one per category) will be announced at a glitzy black tie prize-giving awards ceremony to be held in Johannesburg towards the end of the year. Each winner will receive R5000 in prize money from Standard Bank as well as loads of cool prizes from other sponsors.
