Two Halaal Sandwich Barons open in Cape Town
Following the success of its pilot Halaal store in Sandton City, Sandwich Baron has converted its stores in Cape Town CBD and Bellville to Halaal stores so that even more food lovers can enjoy its products.
The franchise was registered as an approved Halaal vendor with the South African National Halaal Authority (SANHA) in 2012 and opened its first Halaal store the same year.
The converted stores' menus will have removed all pork products (ham, bacon, etc.) and replaced them with alternative beef offerings, such as macon.
The newly converted stores are owned by husband and wife team, Adrian and Irene Walker, who decided to make the shift to serving Halaal food after identifying the demand in the Muslim community for fresh food that they can enjoy.
"We saw it as an ideal opportunity to grow our target market and reach new customers whilst still retaining our loyal regulars. We have even been able to serve more corporate clients because of it," says Adrian Walker.
The franchise's founder and MD, Sally J'Arlette-Joy, adds, "Based on the progress that the Sandton store made since establishment, our strategy is to target major metropolitan areas outside of Gauteng where there is a substantial demand for convenient Halaal food options. The Walkers, who have run their stores successfully since 2011, understood the benefits of the opportunity after seeing the demand and decided to convert."
