SABC, IPO agree on way forward

At a meeting yesterday, Tuesday, 12 July 2011, with the Independent Producers' Organisation (IPO), SABC acting GCEO Phil Molefe informed them that the request for proposal book would be tabled at the group executive meeting on Thursday 14 July. It was also agreed that a way forward would be mapped concerning local content and terms of trade.

The two parties agreed to work together on improving communication that will strengthen both the sector and the public broadcaster.

Commenting on the meeting, Molefe, who comes from a background of content creation and is said to understand the importance and challenges of storytellers and content creators, said, "I welcome this opportunity to meet with key stakeholders - independent producers tell the South African story -and I am committed to meeting monthly with the IPO."

According to IPOco-chairperson Desiree Markgraff, the meeting was positive. "We are committed to building a partnership with the SABC on local content and developing a sustainable production sector that provides stable employment for thousands of people."

"We look forward to building a meaningful and open relationship," concluded Molefe in a press statement.
