A third year of feasting on horror

The independently funded South African HorrorFest, now in its third year, will be held at The Labia Theatre in Cape Town, 26 – 31 October 2007. Besides a variety of older classics, new never-before-seen indie titles, documentaries, live music soundtracks and more, there is, of course, the annual short film competition.

Last year's winners were Josie Minty (Scarecrow Bones) for the South African category, and Dominic Hailstone from the UK for Best Foreign Short (The Eel).

This year, Visual Impact and the HDhub is putting up a great prize yet again. For their next production, the makers of the best locally produced short will get a five-day HD camera and lighting rental package, and the five-day use of a Macbook with Final Cut Pro for editing (a total value of R17 500).

SA and foreign shorts will be compiled and screened as Shadow Realm Volume III.

The closing date for entries is 1 October, with late entry extension until 7 October.

Also expect some surprises in addition to the Halloween dress-up (sponsored by Party Tricks), audience prizes (including horror DVDs from Sting Home Entertainment), PlayStation horror games, and the sale of Something Wicked magazines, DVDs, and Horror shirts.
