Expo to show how to get away

Travel and outdoor enthusiasts looking for fresh ideas for a fun-filled holiday or the latest in equipment, off-road vehicles, gear and accessories will find inspiration at next week's DStv Getaway Show, taking place at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate, Johannesburg, 24 – 26 August 2007.

Hundreds of exhibitors, from tour operators and tourism authorities to motor manufacturers, outdoor clothing and equipment suppliers and 4x4, caravan, trailer and gear suppliers will showcase the best South Africa has to offer.

Thrill-seekers will be able to test their skills on the high-wire balancing bike or zip line as they cross from one end of the Dome to the other, defy gravity on a hydraulic platform plunging to the ground from the drop tower or challenge friends to the obstacle course or climbing wall. An outdoor quad track will keep the children entertained.

Visitors will be able to attend one of the many seminars given by experts on topics ranging from photography to hiking, GPS navigation, mountain-biking and birding in Gauteng. National Geographic film-maker Kim Wolhuter will host a presentation on the trials of filming in the African bush.

Big prizes will be a big drawcard, with a trip to the Emerald Isle for two and a week-long stay in Zanzibar for two, each valued at R30 000, among the prizes up for grabs. A skiing holiday at Tiffendell Ski Resort, five quad bikes and a roll-bar go-cart can also be won, while Ford will be giving away a new Ford Ranger TDCi 4x2 Double Cab.
