Superstition, disorder - it's 2010

Logitech, suppliers of computer peripherals and TV remotes, have released research conducted by Lightspeed Research on fan's behaviour in the living room during World cup viewing and it isn't pretty. The research covered Denmark, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Results

  • 65% of male respondents will always sit on the same spot on the sofa to avoid jinxing their team
  • 10% avoid shaving throughout the entire tournament
  • 15% sing the national anthem at the start of every match
  • 7% wear a lucky item of clothing
  • 25% claimed to have injured themselves or a friend
  • 21% have broken a piece of furniture
  • 53% have stained the carpet or sofa due to spilling beer
  • 24% have thrown the remote across the living room

"Once again we find a great deal of activity going on in the living room during high TV watching season," says Leslie Smyth, sales & marketing manager - Southern Africa developed countries, Indian Ocean Islands, Nigeria and Ghana.

"Whilst we can't guarantee accident free front rooms, we can provide the remote for this year's soccer championship and we are hoping that our new range of universal remotes will bring a touch of harmony to living rooms across the world this winter."

58% of men admitted the only way they would be prepared to hand over the remote control during a game is through bribery, which will cost anywhere between R1500 and R9000 to put the power back in your hands. Nevertheless, money is not the answer to everything, as 42% stated that no amount of money would persuade them to give up the remote if their team was playing.

The new Logitech Harmony 300i Remote, which replaces up to four other remotes, is available at a suggested retail price of R280.00.
