The contactless payment service, which has been available in other territories since 2015, can now be downloaded from Samsung’s Galaxy App store. The app itself is around 105MB.

There’s a catch however. Credit and debit cards linked to ABSA and Standard Bank can only be used. FNB, Nedbank and Capitec cards are not yet accepted.

For those who use supported cards, more than one can be added and used on the service to pay for content using contactless payment terminals across South Africa.

Samsung Pay also supports cards from other providers, including British Airways, Avios and Virgin Money cards at launch.

Additionally, the service is limited to a number of Samsung smartphones:

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (launching 24 August)
Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Samsung Galaxy S9 series
Samsung Galaxy S8 series
Samsung Galaxy S7 series
Samsung Galaxy A8
Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017)

Support will also be added to the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) next month.
