SA companies can no longer afford to ignore extended producer responsibility

Woolworths will take the majority of its yoghurt products off the shelves because of a supplier including gelatine as an ingredient, the company says.
Head of food Julian Novak says Woolworths has an explicit agreement with yoghurt suppliers not to include gelatine in their products.
This agreement was made after feedback from customers who did not want gelatine in their yoghurt.
He stressed that the yoghurt was perfectly safe to eat and very nutritious. Therefore the products that were taken off the shelves would be donated to local charity.
Woolworths was seeking a new supplier and said it hoped to have gelatine-free yoghurt back in stock in the near future.
